Hi, all. This is to announce the publication of my collection, A Night Garden and other stories. This collection of 33 short stories and novellas (many previously published in various journals and magazines) contains literary fiction of humor and horror, poetry and mystery, science fiction and myth, exploring the limits and inner and outer space. The long story “The Perquisites of His Position” tells a tale of ghostly revenge. The novella “The Darkness of the Heart” relates a story of the day slavery was abolished in Haiti. The satirical “Pangloss Triumphant” tells of a happy hermaphrodite. From the revelations of the aged Don Juan to the musings of B-movie actors trapped in deteriorating celluloid, from the voice of the ancient Sphinx to the senility of a quantum particle at the very end of the physical universe, the thirty-three artfully crafted stories presented here are full of deftly drawn characters, amazing plots, psychological insights, and universal truths. For now you can order this through lulu.com at http://www.lulu.com/shop/brian-drake/a-night-garden-and-other-stories/paperback/product-20090610.html, but it will also be available at Amazon in a few weeks, as well as other online shops. But order it through lulu.com, I get a little more cash that way!

Your reviews will be much appreciated.

Hi all Cosmicasters! The 7th Annual Podcast Awards nominating period opens tomorrow, September 15. Getting the Cosmicast nominated will drive beaucoup de traffic to the cast and tickle Con’s desperate need for acknowledgment. Details and link will follow, but here are the ground rules:

1. You can only nominate ONE TIME. After you submit your nominations, you will be blocked from nominating again. So use that opportunity to nominate The Con and Suranji Cosmicast!

2. You can only nominate the Cosmicast under one subordinate category and then again for a “top” category. That means you should nominate the Cosmicast for Comedy and Best Produced.

3. Following the nominating period, there will be a period of review by the Podcast Awards folks, using various occult criteria to whittle down the myriad nominees to the top ten in each category. If by some bizarre and miraculous fluke of Fate the Cosmicast gets into the top ten for either (or both!) categories, you will then be allowed to vote, over and over and over again, as many times as you can stomach, for the Cosmicast. Winners will be feted in la-la land (Los Angeles).

The Oxford Rationalist Liberation Front and Amateur Theatrical Collective will keep you informed as to our progress. So wait for the link and instructions to come on the nominating process, then cross your digital appendages, and we’ll see if Con can’t finally realize its dream of a little positive reinforcement for all the hard work the ‘cast entails!
